JISC & Blayn - a busy week!
It's been a pretty busy week for me this week. A lot of time has been spent preparing the JISC bid for the 'reuse of learning content' call for proposals. Much of this has been spent writing and formatting the official bid document and liaising with Steve Watson (YSJ), Richard Walker (York Uni), Jessica Grant (Higher York LLN) for their input.
This is the first official bid I have been involved in writing and from my experience over the last few weeks, it is not something I would rush to be involved in again, not for a while anyway. The JISC guidance is very good but there are so many critera to meet and hoops to jump through that the whole affair is pretty exhausting. Anyway, submission deadline was 12 noon so I'm looking forward to a good weekend now.
The other exciting event this week is the addition of Blayn Parkinson to the team. Blayn has taken over from Peter Worth in the role of Learning Technologist and is already involved in encoding mobile videos for the ALPS project. Blayn's also been getting used to the joys and intricacies of Blackboard and had some orientation training from me and some more advanced training with Phil Vincent. One of Blayn's upcoming jobs will be to approach the e-Learning champions inviting critiques of their Blackboard sites and suggesting areas for aesthetic and resource development. The first of these projects looks likely to be with a TESOL course run by Rachel Wikaksono, which Blayn's working on currently.
